COMPARISON OF ROOM AND BOARD RATES FOR MAIN CAMPUSES OF TEN INSTITUTIONS

Academic year room and board rates for the most prevalent double room accommodations on the main campuses of the public Big Ten institutions appear in the table below. For the 2000-01 academic year, Indiana University's new student rate ranks third out of ten campuses. The new student room and board rate of $5,679 is $285 less than the highest rate of $5,964 at Ohio State University and is $1,207 more than the lowest rate of $4,472 at Michigan State University.

a   Rate reflected is the rate charged to new students.
The rate for the most prevalent double room accommodation on the Bloomington campus is $3,008.  This is for an air conditioned room.  The most expensive board plan is $2,671.  We no longer have a meals per week plan.   Students contract for a set number of points valued at $1 per point.   The points can be used  in all residential food operations and 300 points may be used in the Indiana Memorial Union and the Library food court.  Unused points are not refunded at year end.  Students have the option to add to their point balance at any time.

c  Wisconsin does not have "meal plans." They have an a la carte system.  The rate indicated includes $962 in a debit plan.
