DISTRIBUTION OF ACADEMIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE SPACE BY USE:

Space assigned to academic-administrative activities is divided into 11 categories according to room use:

  1. Classrooms: seminars, general classrooms, and lecture halls.

  2. Instructional Laboratories: special purpose laboratories, service areas and studios used for teaching.

  3. Non-Class Laboratories: laboratories and service areas used for research purposes.

  4. Office Areas: offices, office service areas, and conference rooms.

  5. Study Facilities: reading rooms, stack areas, library processing areas, study collections, and computer clusters.

  6. Special Use: physical education and recreational facilities, greenhouses, and animal quarters.

  7. General Use: museums, lounges, merchandising facilities, food facilities, and meeting rooms.

  8. Support Areas: central data processing facilities, shops, and storage.

  9. Health Facilities on the Bloomington campus: the Student Health Center; at IUPUI: health profession clinics not located in hospitals.

  10. Residential Facilities on the Bloomington campus: International House, Developmental Training Center, Bryan House; at IUPUI: Sunset Lane properties.

  11. Unclassified: unused space or space being remodeled.

Office areas constitute the largest single room-use category and account for 30 percent of all academic-administrative space.
