SOURCES OF UNRESTRICTED FUND INCOME
For 2000-01, current unrestricted fund income equaled $1,239.9 million. Forty-two percent of the total ($528.5 million) was derived from state appropriations. Student fee income accounted for $471.2 million, or 38 percent. The remainder, $243.1 million, or 20 percent, was earned income, or funds generated from University operations and services. These funds include interest on bank balances, recovery of indirect costs incurred from research grants and contracts, and sales of goods purchased for resale.
